On the road to Halloween in Eureka

It was a rather gloomy day on the 30th. The wind had whipped up and the clouds had covered the sky.
The Sun was no where to been seen, and I wasn't in the best of spirits to be traveling. It had been a rough week or two. I decided to make the best of life, and give the thing a chance. After all, attitude is nine tenths all of anything.
Sherry showed up, and I piled in the car, lousy attitude and all. Sherry is good company, and sure enough, before long my mood lifted and I was just a singin to the Indigo girls. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed them, and they worked wonders to get me back into a spirit that served me well. What this means is that I started to talk and poor Sherry was good enough to just listen, and interject. Guess I needed it, because it certainly helped.
So, on with the show. I showed Sherry how to take pictures with this devil camera I have. She did pretty good, and all of the good shots came from her. The ones that could use a bit of polish came from me.

This is gonna be kinda long and may take a number of pages

We start with a scene on the road as we are leaving Oklahoma. Not that I dislike Oklahoma. I love it. But some scenery could be improved upon. Just before we got to the Turnpike gate. I've included thumbnails and you can click on them to see the full image. Some are pretty big.
Ok is pretty!
When we got to Springdale, and navigated through all the stoplights except maybe one, there was an interesting site. Here's what I saw:

MPlane? McCrash?

Past Springdale, there was some neat things.. a little river, and a bit of local color
I forget the name
After we got off 412, and started down 45, we got this very pretty canopy of leaves.
Canopees And after a few more twisty turny turns...

We Arrived!
Front View
I thought I'd give a view of the house from in front, something I didn't do last time. Linda was there to greet us, and she was a welcome site. We were hungry, and we brought gifts. Bobby had been having problems with a video game, and one of his Christmas presents was a brand new video card. See, Christmas comes year round with our bunch, which makes all of us very lucky.

I did say we were hungry, so we went to eat at the Two Weird Guys again. Pat is one of the owners. A very nice guy. No, I don't have a picture of him.

The front of the Weird Guys.. it's Halloween, after all.

Linda and Sherry sitting at the Weird Guys.. Looking good, huh?
After that, we went on a little sightseeing tour. Don't do this in a big, fat, van. Do it in a little car.. really.
sherry wants this!
Sherry decided that THIS was her house. Forget that it says Rosalee on it, or that someone lived in it. Oh, and it IS for sale!

There was something that Linda and Bobby wanted to show us. It was like a temple they said. So we took a trip into the Cemetary and they showed us what appeared to be a funeral bier, just like what the Native American's use to use.

This honored place is the resting place of Annie Applemarm. She was 19 years old when she died. Either that or 219 years old. We had a hard time making out the date. Her headstone is hand carved, and she has many friends apparently, judging from the amount of toys, crystals, stones, bibles, dolls and other things of memory that were placed with reverence on her grave.

Here's her headstone

By the time we were done with our trip through Eureka for that day, we decided that we were all tired and called it a night. We went back to the house, and plugged in the lights that Bob had set up around the back patio.
ooohhh Pretty
Nice effect, huh? You should see it in person.
After it got a bit chilly, and way,way dark (the only lights were from the cemetery .. Halloween and all), we went inside and sat down to a rousing game of Scrabble (no, I didn't win) and Yhatzee (and hell no, I didn't win). Midnight chimed and we went to bed. Sherry took the sofa, I took the little roll out bed, and slept not to terribly bad.

Now.. if this sounds like a boring time, it wasn't. There was no great drama, no tears, no screaming, no trick or treaters, on traffic, no gunshots, the worst thing we heard was the Buck rubbing his antlers against the little shed and pinecones hitting the metal roof. For folks from the city, this wasn't boring, this was Heaven. The next page, not quite done yet, is my trip through the cemetery and the trip to Eureka Springs for the Trolly tour.

and if that's not exciting enough for you, well.. tough. This is my memories. CjB
